Where is that freight train going?
Well i hate to tell you but without an actual train id it's almost impossible to tell where it's going. All trains have a train symbol that tell you it's destination. The first letter is the train type and the rest is it's origin and destination. On the UPRR we have A for auto,C for coal,G for grain,M for manifest,I for intermodal,K for expedited intermodal,Z for super expedited intermodal,W for work trains, and S for special trains. To give you an example we have a ZCIG1 that means is a hot intermodal coming from the City Of Industry Calif. to the G1 intermodal facility near Chicago. But without having the train symbol anything is just a guess as to where it's headed. You could try going by the rail yard and see what they say but i doubt they would give you a tour.Liability issues are just too much of a concern these days.If you do go to the yard go to the office and talk to someone. If you just go out into the yard you'll probably get removed by the railroad police in short order.Oh and the ADM car was probably a tank car full of corn syrup going to be made INTO soda pop.One other thing the engine number is just a way to identify the train. Our track warrant will have the engine number on it and that's what we use when we talk on the radio.
